Louis Oosthuizen was two under par after the first round on Thursday of the CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek on the PGA Tour in Las Vegas, Nevada to settle in fives strokes off the lead.
He made four bogeys and five birdies while hitting just 50 percent of the greens in regulation – and that was despite his being accurate off the tee, hitting 71.43 percent of the fairways. He finished the day in a share of 14th.
The other South African in the field, Dylan Frittelli was two-over in a share of 46th. He made just two birdies during the opening round.
Last week’s European Tour winner Tyrrell Hatton carried on where he left off last week, and his opening seven-under 65 gave him a one-stroke lead over Russell Henley and Xander Schauffele.
Hatton posted the lowest competitive round at Shadow Creek, mainly because this is the first PGA Tour event at the prestigious club. Dustin Johnson, not playing this week because of a positive test result for the coronavirus, had a 65 during a casual round in 2015.
