Two late bogeys on Sunday rather spoiled Retief Goosen’s bid to get closer to the eventual winner in the PGA Tour Champions Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Virginia, but his closing three-under 69 was still good enough to see him into a share of sixth place.
The tournament was won at a canter by Phil Mickelson, whose 17-under-par for the 54-hole tournament was more than good enough to hold off another senior ‘rookie’ in Canada’s Mike Weir by three shots. Weir’s final round of 71 was not in the same league as Mickelson’s 65.
Ernie Els followed up his victory the previous week on the PGA Tour Champions circuit with a share of ninth, one shot behind Goosen after rounds of 72-66-68.
David Frost finished down in a share of 65th after rounds of 72-74-73.
