Two bogeys and a double-bogey six on her closing hole, the ninth, on Thursday saw Ashleigh Buhai to a level-par 72 in the opening round of the LPGA Drive-On Championship at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro Georgia.
That left her seven shots off the pace set by set by the US duo of Danielle Kang and Jennifer Song who each carded seven-under-par 65 to take a one-stroke lead over countrywoman Ally McDonald.
Buhai started steadily enough, turning in one-under after a bogey on the 12th and birdies on 13 and 17. Birdies on two and five advanced her to three-under, but she dropped another shot on seven and then made her closing double to drop down to level.
It was a solid round with just the fact that she missed six of the greens in regulation holding her back, particularly after a round with 29 putts.
