On a weather-interrupted day, Louis de Jager was the only South African who will go through to the weekend of the European Tour’s Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown at Aphrodite Hills Resort in Paphos, Cyprus.
After the second round is complete, the initial 105 players will be reduced to 32 and ties, with scores reset to level-par both then and ahead of Sunday’s 16-man showdown. De Jager carded a second-round six-under-par 65 to make it into Saturday’s action. He made seven birdies and a bogey, including a run of three successive gains on four, five and six.
The tournament is led by Jamie Donaldson of Wales, who will complete his final three holes on Saturday morning. He is currently 12-under, one shot clear of James Morrison of England and Johannes Veerman of the United States.
Zander Lombard, Wilco Nienaber, Haydn Porteous and Garrick Nienaber all missed out on the weekend action, as did Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent.
