While the leader seems too far ahead for Ernie Els to chase, the South African carded a one-under-par 70 on Sunday to move to four-under for the tournament in the PGA Tour Champions’ Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Phoenix, Arizona.
Els made three birdies and two bogeys as he settled into a share of 13th ahead of the final round of the tournament that has been shortened to 54 holes this year. Kevin Sutherland of the United States leads at 13-under-par after his second round of seven-under 64 took him into a five-stroke lead over Wes Short Jr. Tom Lehman and Paul Broadhurst were in a share of third on seven-under.
Retief Goosen carded a two-under 69 in the second round to climb to three-under for the tournament in a share of 19th, with David Frost’s second-round level-par 71 leaving him on level-par for the tournament in a share of 46th.
