Andre de Decker fired a seven-under-par 65 at Huddle Park on Tuesday to lead 10 qualifiers into the Joburg Open, the Sunshine Tour and European co-sanctioned tournament being played this week at Randpark.
De Decker made two eagles, four birdies and just a single bogey, and that was good enough for him to share the top of the leaderboard with Matthew Spacey. Spacey made two eagles, six birdies and three bogeys for his 67.
Colin Nel, Desne van den Bergh, Richard Joubert, Hayden Griffiths, Peetie van der Merwe and Makhetha Mazibuko all carded six-under 66s to get into the tournament that will tee off on Thursday on the Firethorn course at Randpark.
Riekus Nortje and Breyten Meyer survived a 10-man play-off to make up the balance of the 10 players who got into the main draw.
Veterans Chris Swanepoel and Ulrich van den Berg were two of the unlucky players on five-under who didn’t survive the play-off.
