Oosthuizen opens with 2-under in Phoenix

Louis Oosthuizen started the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour with a two-under-par 69 on Thursday, leaving him six shots off the lead in round one.

He made a birdie on the third to turn in one-under, and two more on 12 and 13, before dropping a shot on the 16th and in a share of 37th place. The leaders were Matthew NeSmith and Mark Hubbard of the United States, who led by one from countrymen Nate Lashley and Sam Burns.

Dylan Frittelli made two birdies and two bogeys while carding a level-par 71, Charl Schwartzel was in a share of 86th after an opening one-over-par 72, and a double-bogey six on the fifth during his homeward nine saw Erik van Rooyen finish at two-over.

South African-turned-Slovakian Rory Sabbatini had his worst start in a long while when he made a six-over-par 77 to end the day down in 129th in the 132-man field.
