Ashleigh Buhai got her LPGA season off to a solid start with a one-under-par 71 in the first round of the Gainbridge LPGA in Orlando, Florida on Thursday.
She made two birdies and a bogey in her round, leaving her six shots off the early pace set by New Zealand’s former world number one Lydia Ko. Ko leads by two from Nanna Koerstz Madsen of Denmark, and Nelly Korda of the United States.
The tournament is the 2021 season opener on the LPGA Tour, and Buhai finds herself in a share of 29th after the first round of a tournament which sees the first foray into LPGA tournament golf for Annika Sorenstam since her retirement. The Swede carded a three-over 75.
Buhai started on the 10th and quickly picked up her first shot on the 11th, and then held steady with pars until the turn, and she picked up a second shot with a birdie n the first. But she gave back a shot on the par-three sixth when she made bogey there.
Ko turned on the fireworks with an eagle, six birdies and a bogey for her 65.
