Branden Grace continued his sold form on Thursday with a five-under-par 67 in the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open to take up a share of ninth place.
Grace didn’t start too auspiciously, with a bogey in the first, but he made up for that immediately with the first of his birdies on the second. He made another on the par-five fifth, before making four on his homeward way – on the 13th, and then three in a row from the 16th to round things off nicely.
Tommy Gainey of the United States held the lead with his seven-under 65, giving him a one-stroke edge over a host of players including Australia’s Greg Chalmers. Americans Robert Garrigus, Brandon Wu and Lee Hodges, local player Rafael Campos, Canadian Taylor Pendrith and Argentine Fabian Gomez.
Grace is playing in the event as he has not qualified for the WGC-Workday Championship.
