Retief Goosen made six birdies and three bogeys on Friday in the opening round of the PGA Tour Champions event, the Cologuard Classic in Tucson, Arizona on his way to a three-under-par 70.
That left him four shots off the first-round lead which was held by Canada’s Mike Weir, who was bogey-free for his 66. That gave Weir a one-stroke lead over Scott Verplank.
David Frost was on one-under after his first round, while a triple-bogey seven on the 18th saw Ernie Els slip back to level-par and a share of 37th.
