Dawie van der Walt made six birdies and two bogeys on Friday on his way to a four-under-par 67 as he moved into a share of sixth at the halfway mark of the Chitimacha Louisiana Open on the Korn Ferry Tour.
He was just four shots off the pace going into the weekend, as Mexico’s Roberto Diaz and America’s Peter Uihlein shared the lead at eight-under after shooting 65 and 67 respectively. The other South African in the field, Tyrone van Aswegen, missed the cut.
In the Honda Classic on the main PGA Tour, Charl Schwartzel was the leading South African after aa one-under 69 took him to one-under for the tournament and a share of 42nd. Erik van Rooyen made the cut after a second-successive level-par 70, but Dylan Frittelli missed the cut after his one-under 69 took him to four-over.
In the Symetra Tour’s opener, the Carlisle Arizona Wome’s Golf Classic, Paula Reto made it to the weekend with a one-under 71 taking her to a share of 30th in a tournament being led at 11-under by amateur Olivia Mehaffey of Northern Ireland.
