It was allegedly ‘warmer’ on Saturday, and Jacques Kruyswijk made his move in the third round of the Austrian Golf Open on the European Tour as he carded a two-under-par 70 to slip into a share of fifth ahead of the final round.
He made an eagle three on the 15th to go with his two birdies and two bogeys as he moved to six-under for the tournament, three shots off the lead held jointly by Spain’s Alejandro Canizares and Germany’s Martin Kaymer. Maximilian Kiefer was on eight-under in third place, with America’s John Carlin on seven-under for the tournament.
Kruyswijk scrambled and putted his way to his score as he battled to get into a position to get his maiden European Tour title – having come so close in Kenya last month.
Garrick Higgo carded a three-under 69 to climb into a share of ninth, while Justin Walters, who was the best-placed South African after the second round, ground out a two-over 74 to slip to a share of 14th at three-under, six back ahead of the final round.
Zander Lombard had a poor third round, carding a five-over 77 to slip to three-over after 54 holes in a share of 59th.
