Dawie van der Walt closed with a four-under-par 68 on Sunday to take second place in the Korn Ferry Tour’s AdventHealth Championship in Kansas City, Missouri.
He chased hard with five birdies in his final six holes, but the fast finish left him two shots behind winner Cameron Young of the United States, who also carded a closing 68. Van der Walt’s 17-under tournament total left him a shot clear of third-place finisher American Zach Wright.
Van der Walt, who has won the Tshwane Open and the Nelson Mandela Championship on the Sunshine Tour, both co-sanctioned by the European Tour, made his charge after he turned in level par with three bogeys and three birdies on his card. After making bogey on the 10th, he got things steady with pars on the 11th and 12th, before he did his best to close the gap on Young.
Earlier in the week, Tyrone van Aswegen missed the cut after carding a second-round 78.
