Caitlyn Macnab has grabbed her big chance on the Ladies European Tour with relish as she carded a second round one-under-par 70 on Friday to set herself up for a run at the title in the Jabra Ladies Open at the Evian Resort Golf Club.
Her round had three bogeys and four birdies as she shot 31 places up the leaderboard into a share of sixth at one-under for the 54-hole tournament. That’s just four off the lead which is shared by Olivia Cowan of Germany and England’s Annabel Dimmock. Thailand’s Atthaya Thitikul is in third on four-under, Pia Babnik of Slovenia is in fourth on three-under, and Scot Kylie Henry is fifth on two-under. Macnab shares sixth with three other players.
The South African amateur who is playing in the tournament thanks to her commanding eight-shot victory on the Sunshine Ladies Tour in the Jabra Classic in April, made all her bogeys on the front nine. She dropped shots on the first, sixth, and eighth, interspersing those with birdies on the third and ninth.
Things were much steadier for her on the back nine, with pars all the way until the 14th, and then she made consecutive birdies on the 15th and 16th.
Fellow South African Casandra Hall made the cut too after her second-round of one-over-par took her to four-over for the tournament and a share of 30th. Monique Smit, Lejan Lewthwaite and eSwatini’s Nobuhle Dlamini were all in 42nd on six-over, and Stacy Bregman was a further shot back in 51st.
