Ernie Els goes into the weekend in the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio very much in contention for the senior major title in a share of fifth.
Els carded a three-under-par 67 in the second round as he moved to one-under for the tournament. That allowed him to close the gap to leader Steve Stricker to eight shots as Stricker signed for a two-under in his second round. Paul Broadhurst of England was in second on four-under after his 69 in the second round.
Els was in a share of fifth with five other players including Jim Furyk and Jose Maria Olazabal. Els made five birdies in his second round, but dropped two shots with two bogeys.
Retief Goosen carded a one-over 71 to climb into a share of 19th at four-over for the tournament, while David Frost’s four-over 74 saw him at seven-over for the championship and in a share of 51st.
