With play suspended for bad weather, Paula Reto had got her second round of the LPGA Tour’s Volunteers of America Classic done and dusted, her two-under-par 69 putting her inside the top 10 for the weekend at the Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas.
She made four birdies and two bogeys in her second round, which left her five shots off the lead which was held by Matilda Castren of Finland, who carded a second successive five-under 66. Castren had a two-stroke lead over the South Korean pair of Jeongeun Lee6 and Jin Young Ko – although Ko still had to complete her second round, with only four holes completed.
Reto made an early bogey after starting her round on the 10th, on the 14th, but she picked the shot back up by making birdie on the 18th. A pair of birdies back-to-back on the second and third after the turn too her to five-under for the tournament, and a bogey on six and a birdie on nine saw her stay there in a share of ninth.
That position could change, with most of the afternoon wave of the second round draw still to complete their rounds.
