Ernie Els hung on in the final round of the PGA Tour Champions Dick’s Sporting Goods Open on Sunday with a level-par 72, but his 11-under-par 54-hole total wasn’t enough to give him the victory as he was edged by one stroke.

Cameron Beckman closed with a four-under 68 to take the title after Els’ round of three birdies and three bogeys left him on the 36-hole total which had given hm the lead.

Retief Goosen was one of the fastest finishers in the final round, his six-under 66 lifting him 14 places into a share of third. David Frost closed with a 74 to finish in a share of 75th.

On the PGA Tour, Garrick Higgo had a solid, if unspectacular tournament in the Rocket Mortgage Classic which was won by Cameron Davis in a five-hole play-off with Troy Merritt and Joaquin Niemann. Niemann fell out on the first play-off hole after the trio had finished on 18-under-par.

Higgo finished in a share of 41st after a closing one-under took him to eight-under for the tournament.

On the Korn Ferry Tour, Dawie van der Walt finished in a share of 30th after a closing one-under 70 in the Live and Work in Maine Open which was won by Chad Ramey.

In Japan, Jbe’ Kruger closed the Japan PGA Championship with a two-over-par 73 to finish in a share of 26th behind Seong-Hyeon Kim of Korea.
