Ernie Els stayed inside the top 10 of the Senior Open Championship at Sunningdale in England on Saturday as he carded a level-par 70 for a share of seventy place.

As things got tighter towards the final round of the senior major championship, par might have been considered a good score, but Welshman Stephen Dodd blasted his way to an eight-under 62 to take the lead at 11-under, six ahead of Els. Dodd was two clear of Jerry Kelly of the United States, with Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke in third on eight-under. Paul Broadhurst, Bernhard Langer and Miguel Angel Jimenez were fourth on seven-under.

James Kingston, who led after the first round, also signed for a level-par 70, which was an improvement on his four-over in the second round. He was on one-under for the tournament in a share of 17th.

David Frost was on four-over, Chris Williams on five-over and Clinton Whitelaw on six-over.
