Bryce Easton continued his recent good form with a five-under-par 67 on Thursday to take a share of nineth place after the first round of the European Tour’s Hero Open at Fairmont St Andrews in St Andrews in Scotland.
Easton, who grabbed a share of eighth in the Cazoo Open in Wales at the end of last month, went bogey-free in his first round in the town that houses the ‘Home of Golf’. He started his round on the 10th with a birdie, and then picked up two more on 14 and 18 to turn in three-under. There were two more gains for him on the sixth and seventh as he finished fours trokes adrift of the course-record setting exploits of Calum Hill of Scotland.
Hill’s bogey-free nine-under led by one from Northern Ireland’s Jonathan Caldwell, with three players a further shot back on seven-under. There were three players on six-under, and then came the large group on five-under which included Easton.
Justin Walters was a further shot back on four-under after his opening 68 with six birdies and two bogeys. Haydn Porteous was on one-over and Daniel van Tonder on two-over.
