Pieter Moolman and Ryan Tipping took the first-round lead by four shots on Tuesday in the Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour’s with a betterball score of 13-under-par 59 at State Mines Golf Club.
Between them, they made an eagle and 11 birdies, going out in 30 and coming home in 29. Their eagle came on the par-five seventh, and their total put them clear of Michael Kok and Vaughan van Deventer and the amateur pairing of Yurav Premlall and Casey Jarvis. Kyle McClatchie and Caylum Boon were in fourth place on eight-under.
A win for Tipping this week would be useful for his position on the Chase to the Sunshine Tour, where he currently lies in 10th place behind the leader Jarvis.
Equally, Kok would like to produce a good performance after a run of average showings to bolster his current second place.
