Ashleigh Buhai was the best of the South Africans in action on Thursday in the first round of the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open at Dumbarnie Links in Leven, Scotland as she carded a one-under-par 71.
Her two birdies and a bogey saw her finish in a share of 35th, six shots off the lead which was held by Michelle Thomson of Scotland. Thomson held a one-stroke lead over Anne van Dam of the Netherlands, Yuka Saso of the Philippines and Thailand’s Jasmine Suwannapura.
Buhai dropped a shot on the par-four fourth hole, but she picked up birdies on six and 15.
Next best of the South Africans were Paula Reto and Stacy Bregman who were level-par 72 for a share of 55th. South African Women’s Open champion Lee-Anne Pace was on four-over, while Nicole Garcia was on nine-over.
