Daniel van Tonder signed for a three-under-par 69 on Thursday in the opening round of the European Tour’s Cazoo Classic at London Golf Club in Kent, England to take up a share of 20th.
He started his round on the 10th, and made immediate inroads with a birdie on that par-four hole, before picking up another shot on the par-five 12th. He made a bogey on the par-four 14th, and regained that dropped shot with a birdie on the par-five 15th. He turned in two-under 34, and made just one more birdie on his way in on the par-five fifth.
The tournament was led at seven-under-par 65 by veteran Richard Bland, who had a one-stroke advantage over countrymen Jordan Smith and Dale Whitnell of England, former Zimbabwean Sean Crocker of the United States and his fellow-American Sihwan Kim.
Justin Walters was on two-under-par after the first round in a share of 31st, while Bryce Easton was on level-par. Louis de Jager was on one-over, Brandon Stone on three-over and Haydn Porteous carded a nine-over 81.
