Hennie du Plessis hung on to his position inside the top 10 of the Challenge Tour’s Made in Esbjerg Challenge at Esbjerg Golfklub in Esbjerg, Denmark on Friday as he carded a third-round level-par 71.
That left him at five-under-par for the tournament in a share of sixth place ahead of the final round, just three shots off the lead which was held by Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson and France’s Felix Mory at eight-under. They had a one-stroke edge over local player Nicolai Tinning in third. There were two players at six-under, and then came Du Plessis and three others.
It was a tough day for Du Plessis, despite an early birdie on the par-three second. Having made just one bogey in his first two rounds – on the 12th – he had three on his card in the third round. They came on the fourth, 12th and 18th, but he managed to pick up birdies on the 14th and 15th to keep himself in contention.
Merrick Bremner also had a third round of level-par 71 to stay inside the top 20 at two-under for the tournament. The other South African who made the cut was Ruan Conradie, who carded a four-over 75 in his third round to move to four-over in a share of 59th.
