Daniel van Tonder slipped down the leaderboard on Saturday despite carding a third-round one-under-par 71 in the European Tour’s Cazoo Classic at London Golf Club in Kent.
He finished the day at seven-under-par ahead of the final round, in a share of 19th and seven shots behind the leader Rasmus Hojgaard of Denmark after the youngster blitzed his way to a 10-under 62 in the third round to take a three-stroke lead. In second were Calum Hill of Scotland and Jordan Smith of England, with veteran Richard Bland getting back into contention at 10-under with English countryman Dale Whitnell.
Van Tonder was able to make five birdies in the third round, four of them coming on the back nine, but he was unable to keep four bogeys off his scorecard, including one on the 18th. As in the second round, he let opportunities to score slip, and consequently ended up losing 11 spots on the leaderboard.
Justin Walters signed for a three-under 69 to climb into a share of 39th, while the 2018 Cape Town Open champion Rhys Enoch of Wales, who led at halfway, slipped to a five-over 77 in the third round to drop to five-over for the tournament in a share of 33rd.
