Dawie van der Walt carded a third-round score of five-under-par 66 on Saturday in the Korn Ferry Tour’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ohio to move into a share of 12th.

He made six birdies and dropped just one shot as he climbed 30 places on the leaderboard to a 54-hole score of nine-under-par, six shots behind the lead which was shared by Vincent Whaley of the United States and Germany’s Stephan Jaeger, who has been at the top of the leaderboard since the first round. They lead by one from 2018 Alfred Dunhill Championship winner David Lipsky, who was on 14-under.

Van der Walt was two shots ahead of the other South African in the field, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who had a two-under-par 69 in the third round. He made three birdies and a bogey to be in a share of 30th, three places down from his halfway position.

Bezuidenhout is playing the three-tournament final series of the Korn Ferry Tour in an effort to secure his PGA Tour card. The top 25 players after that series who have not already secured their cards will get status on the PGA Tour. Bezuidenhout is seventh after the first tournament, and, on his current positions, is projected to be 11th ahead of the season-ending Korn Ferry Tour Championship next week.
