Oosthuizen rounds out good season with 14th in Tour Championship

The PGA Tour season ended solidly enough for Louis Oosthuizen who carded a quiet level-par 70 on Sunday in the final round of the Tour Championship while all the action was playing out well above his 14th-place finish.

He made four birdies and four bogeys to slip two spots down the leaderboard and finish on seven-under for the week, 14-strokes behind the winner Patrick Cantlay who started the week with the substantial advantage of being on 10-under before a shot was struck. So Oosthuizen had a seven-stroke deficit to make up, and that was always going to be tough against a man in form who held off a charge from world number on Jon Rahm of Spain. Rahm ended up one stroke shy of pulling it off, even though he was 14-under-par for the week to Cantlay’s 11-under – that’s perhaps the biggest flaw in the modelling of the Tour Championship scoring.

Behind Oosthuizen, Erik van Rooyen signed off his first full season on the PGA Tour with a three-under-par 67 to move to three-under for the tournament and a share of 22nd. That put him in 27th on the final FedEx Cup rankings, while Oosthuizen finished 14th.
