Dawie van der Walt continued his solid start to the resumption of his PGA Tour career on Friday with a two-under-par 70 in the second round of the Fortinet Championship in Napa Valley, California.

His round of three birdies and a bogey took him to six-under-par for the tournament and a share of 17th, six shots off the lead which was held by Maverick McNealy of the United States. McNealy’s second-round 64 took him to 12-under and two clear of American Beau Hossler and Mito Pereira of Chile.

Van der Walt’s only bogey came on the ninth, which was his closing hole for the day. His third shot to the par-five came up short on the centre greenside bunker, and he hit his shot from the bunker nearly 12 feet past the hole and missed the putt.

Dylan Frittelli was the other South African in the PGA Tour’s new season-opener, and he missed the cut after a six-over 78 took him to eight-over for 36 holes.
