Ashleigh Buhai got off to a great start on Friday in the opening round of the LPGA Tour’s 54-hole Walmart NW Arkansas Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas when she carded a five-under-par 66.
She had a brilliant start to her round from the 10th, making five birdies on 11, 13, 14, 17 and 18 to reach the turn in 30. She dropped a shot in the third, and regained it again with a birdie on her closing hole, the ninth. That left her three shots behind a three-way tie for the lead between Australia’s Katherine Kirk and the Korean duo of Eun-Hee Ji and A Lim Kin. They were one clear of American Sarah Burnham.
The other South African in the field is Paula Reto, and she opened with a two-under 69 for a share of 44th. She made three birdies and a bogey in her round.
