Louis de Jager joined Hennie du Plessis in the top 20 of the Challenge Tour’s Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort in Óbidos, Portugal on Saturday with a two-under-par 70 taking him to a share of 18th.
After making two bogeys on four an eight, De Jager got things back on track with a birdie on nine to turn in one-over, and he got things back to level-par with another birdie on 10. A drop on 13 was followed by three birdies on 15, 17 and 18. At six-under, he was 11 shots behind the leader, Marcel Schneider of Germany. Schneider had a three-stroke lead over Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey of Spain.
With three birdies and two bogeys on his front nine, Du Plessis reached the turn in one-under, but a double-bogey seven on the 11th and a bogey on the 18th saw him sign for a two-over 74.
One shot back on five-under was Jacques Kruyswijk who had a level-par 72. He was in a share of 26th. Bryce Easton made a three-under 69 to be in a share of 31st, and JC Ritchie’s level-par 72 had him in a share of 50th on one-under.
