Dylan Frittelli picked up an eagle-three on the fifth on Thursday to move to three-under-par 69 in the first round of the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship, Country Club of Jackson, Jackson, Mississippi.
Frittelli started his round on the 10th, and had a birdie on the 11th, followed by a bogey ion the 12th. He got things going again with birdies on 16 and 17 ahead of the turn, but he dropped a shot on the third. Then came the eagle, and he finished the round fives shots off the lead which was held by Sahith Theegala of the United States. Theegala had a one-stroke lead over countrymen Harold Varner III and Nick Watney.
Frittelli’s eagle came with a big 338-yard drive, and a 276-yard approach which left him on the fringe of the green about 13 yards from the hole. He chipped in from there.
Frittelli shared 32nd with Rory Sabbatini, and Dawie van der Walt opened with a one-under 71, which included three birdies and two bogeys to put him in a share of 71st.
