Jacques Blaauw carried on clinging to his 34th spot on the Challenge Tour rankings list on Sunday with a closing five-under-par 67 giving him a share of 25th in the Swiss Challenge at Golf Saint Apollinaire in Michelbach-Le-Haut, France.
After making eight bogeys in his middle rounds – five in the second and three in the third – he had just one dropped shot in his final round, as well as an eagle and four birdies as he finished the tournament on 15-under-par. That was 10 shots behind the winner, Marcus Helligkilde of Denmark, who had a closing 10-under 62 to beat Jonathan Thompson of England and Dane Nicolai Kristensen by one stroke.
In a solid season – just five missed cuts in 19 events – it is getting tight for Blaauw if he is to get into the top 15 on the Challenge Tour rankings and win his European Tour card. He has just two top-10s to his name this year, and he needs some more of those – or a win – in the remaining two tournaments ahead of the Challenge Tour Gran Final in Spain which tees off on November 4.
