Paula Reto capped yet another good week on the LPGA Tour with a final round of three-under-par 68 on Sunday to finish in a share of 19th in the Cognizant Founders Cup in West Caldwell, New Jersey.
After a shaky start during which she made bogeys on the first and second holes, she picked up her first birdie on the par-three seventh to turn for home at one-over for the day. She then picked up four birdies in her last seven holes to get to five-under for the tournament.
The tournament was a runaway success for South Korea’s Jin Young Ko, who, at 18-under for the week, was four shots clear of Germany’s Caroline Masson. America’s Elizabeth Szokol was in third, her 11-under putting her seven shots behind Ko.
Ashleigh Buhai closed with a one-under 70 which took her to one-under for the tournament and a share of 51st.
For Reto, as significant as the top-20 finish for her will be the fact that she climbed to 77th in the Race to the CME Globe rankings. It will leave her just short of the top 60, and she is currently reserve number six for BMW Ladies Championship on October 21 in Korea, and reserve number 15 for the Pelican Women’s Championship in Florida on November 11. She will be hoping for some luck to go her way to get into one or both of those tournaments so she can play her way into the top 60 to round out what has been a good season.
