The Sunshine Tour’s Blue Label Challenge at Gary Player Country Club was led for the second day in a row on Friday after qualifier Dylan Mostert signed for a four-under-par 68 to take a one-point lead into the final round of the modified Stableford tournament.

He supplanted Ruan Korb at the top of the leaderboard. With eagles scoring three points, birdies two, bogeys minus one and doubles minus three, Mostert made six birdies and to bogeys to rack up 10 points. With 25 points to his name going into the final round, he leads Lyle Rowe, who carded a 69 for eight points, by one. First-round leader Ockie Strydom is on 22 points, with Rhys Enoch of Wales and Jaco Ahlers rounding out the top five on 21.

Mostert, who only got in to the tournament when he had a share of fifth position in the qualifier on Tuesday with a haul of six points, only started playing on the Sunshine Tour this season at the Sunshine Tour Invitational at the beginning of September. He missed the cut in that tournament, and in his two subsequent tournaments as well.

But he carded 70 in the qualifier, a score which he repeated in his opening round. He’s only got better as the week has worn on, with a 69 in the second round and then today’s 68 after starting in seventh place, five points behind Korb’s lead. Korb had a six-over 78, and with three double-bogeys on his card, ended the day 1ith minus seven points to slip to a share of 12th on 13 points.

Mostert birdied the par-three third hole, but his real charge up the leaderboard came around the turn when he picked up three birdies in four holes. Two more birdies on the 14th and 15th holes sealed a marvellous round for the State Mines golfer.
