Bogey on last can’t halt Williams on his march to State Mines win

Despite a finishing bogey in Wednesday, Robin William’s closing three-under-par 69 was enough to give him a two-stroke victory at State Mines Country Club in the Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour’s Q-School Warm-Up.

It was his opening nine which set up the win as he made four birdies to turn in four-under-par. That opened a four-stroke lead and that was always going to be tough for his pursuers to close. Luke Trocado was the nearest of his chasers, and he too carded a three-under 69 to share second with Sentiano Minnie, who signed for a 70 to finish 11-under.

Amateur Judd Sundelson also finished with a two-under 70 to take fourth place on 10-under, three shots behind Williams. Portuguese amateur Carlos Laranja closed with a one-under 71 to take fifth at eight-under.

Williams birdies three, six, seven and nine to open up a good lead after carding a pair of successive 67s in the opening rounds. He dropped a shot on 11, but picked that up again with a birdie on 12. He parred his way home, and, in the end, the dropped shot on 18 was academic.
