Caylum Boon pulled six shots clear of his nearest pursuer on Tuesday in the second round of the IGT Challenge Tour’s Race to the Sunshine Tour #1 at Wanderers Golf Club as he fired a six-under-par 65.

Boon made nine birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey to reach eight-under after 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament. Next best on the leaderboard was amateur Travis Ladner, who carded a one-under 70 to move to two-under for the tournament. Ladner shared second with another amateur, Connor MacKenzie, who signed for level-par 71.

Boon started his round on the 10th, and got off to a fast start with birdies on 10 and 11. But he was in trouble on the 12th, where he made a bogey. There was more trouble to come as he made a double on the 14th, and he had to work hard to right the ship, He did just that with pars all the way to the turn, which he reached in one-over 36. But he turned it on during his homeward nine, making seven birdies for a 29. He picked up four in a row immediately after the turn from the first to the fourth, and then picked up three more on six, eight and nine.

Ladner and MacKenzie were a shot clear of yet another amateur, Reece McKain on one-under. There were five players on level-par in a share of fifth: amateur Calvin Maia, Dylan O’Leary, Maritz Wessels, Drikus Joubert and Kai-Alexander Brandkamp.

First-round leader Arno Pretorius battled his way to a six-over 77 to slip to a share of 12th on two-over-par, 10 strokes off the lead.
