Keagan Thomas made two eagles on Monday in the first round of the IGT Challenge Tour’s Road to the Sunshine Tour #4 at Bryanston Country Club on his way to a five-under-par 67 and a three-way share of the lead.

In addition to those eagles, he had four birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey, and he shared the lead with amateurs Sam McKenzie and Kian Rose. Another amateur, Jacob Joseph, shared fourth with Luan Boshoff, and veteran Ulrich van den Berg was in sixth with Arno Pretorius and amateurs Liam Ross and Conner Mackenzie.

Thomas got his round going at 10:45am when it had warmed up, and was immediately into his work with a birdie on the par-five first. He went one better on the par-five second, getting down in three, and a birdie on four had him four-under through four. But he made double-bogey six on the par-four fifth. He dropped another shot on the par-four eighth to come properly down to earth and turn in one-under 35.

He kept things steady after the turn, making pars all the way until the 14th, after which he went on a little bit of a scoring spree again. He made eagle on the par-five 15th, birdie on the par-four 16th, and birdie on the par-five 17th.
