Amateur Matthew Rossouw carded a two-under-par 70 on Tuesday in the second round of the IGT Challenge Tour’s Chase to #5 at Akasia Golf Club to take a four-stroke lead into the final round.
Rossouw made three birdies and a bogey to move to three-under-par for the tournament. In second were female amateur Danielle du Toit, who carded a two-over 74 in her second round, and professional Morne Buys, who, like Rossouw, had a two-under 72.
Rossouw made two birdies early on in his round, on the second and third holes, and dropped a shot on the sixth. Other than a third birdie on the 17th, it was pars all the way, and he was the only player to be under par after 36 holes.
The first-round leader, amateur Jules Helary of France, had a second-round score of five-over-par 77, moving him to three-under for the tournament and a share of fifth place. He shared fifth with South African amateurs Rees Emanuel and Conner Mackenzie, and professional Eric Nel. The amateur Andrej Skrbinsek was alone in fourth on two-over after carding the best round of the day with a three-under 69.
