Jacques Blaauw stormed through the field on Friday with a bogey-free four-under-par 67 in the second round of the Challenge Tour’s Italian Challenge Open to move into a share of ninth.
With three birdies on the front nine and one on the homeward nine, Blaauw moved to five-under for the tournament at the halfway mark. That was four shots off the lead which was held by Germany’s Freddy Schott, who also had a four-under 67 in the second round. Schott led by one from Damien Perrier of France, with four players on seven-under and two on six-under.
Deon Germishuys was in a share of ninth with Blaauw after a second-round score of one-under-par 70.
Bryce Easton had a three-under 68 to go to three-under for the tournament in a share of 20th.
Tristen Strydom, Luke Jerling, Jayden Schaper and Ruan Conradie all missed the cut, while Louis de Jager retired.
