With tough weather conditions at the start of his round, Thriston Lawrence managed to hold it together on Friday in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Horizon Irish Open with a level-par 72 leaving him a share of 15th at the halfway mark.

Lawrence had two birdies and two bogeys on each of the nines, on a day in which he said he believed that scores would be at least four shots worse than they were on the first day. With his opening six-under 66, he was five shots off the lead which was held by Spain’s Jorge Campillo. Campillo had a one-stroke lead over Fabrizio Zanotti of Paraguay and Poland’s Adrian Meronk.

With bogeys on one and seven, and birdies on four, five, 10 and 12, Lawrence got it to eight-under, but he dropped two more shots on the 13th and 14th.

Oliver Bekker carded a one-under 71 to move to five-under and a share of 22nd, while Zander Lombard had a one-over 72 to slip to four-under and a share of 36th. Justin Walters and Brandon Stone had a 72 and a 73 respectively to be on three-under in 47th.

Dean Burmester, Daniel van Tonder, Richard Sterne, George Coetzee, Darren Fichardt, Haydn Porteous and Jacques Kruyswijk missed the cut.
