Ernie Els didn’t make a single birdie on the homeward nine on Sunday, but still managed to finish in a share of fifth in the PGA Tour Champions Ascension Charity Classic.
Els made three birdies without dropping a shot on the front nine as he tried to close the gap on the leaders, but not being able to pick up any more cost him as he finished on 10-under for the tournament. Padraig Harrington won – with three birdies on the back nine – at 14-under by one stroke from YE Yang, with Steve Striker in third and Bernhard Langer in fourth.
David Frost closed with a four-over 75 to finish in a share of 76th on six-over for the tournament.
Els’ performance keeps him in ninth place on the Schwab Cup Money List.
