In a tough closing round on Sunday, James Kingston carded a two-over-par 73 in the final round of the Italian Senior Open on the Legends Tour to finish in second place in defence of the title he won last year.

Kingston had an eagle, a birdie and five bogeys as Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez carded one of only seven rounds under par in the final round. Gonzalez’s one-under 70 gave him a tournament total of two-under and a two-stroke victory over Kingston. Stephen Dodd of Wales, Austria’s Markus Brier and England’s Gary Wolstenholme shared third on three-over, one behind Kingston.

Brazil’s Adilson Da Silva closed with a one-over 72 to finish on five-over for the tournament in a share of ninth, while Chris Williams had a one-under 70 to move to six-over and a share of 12th.

Kingston tops the Order of Merit, and Da Silva is in fifth.
