He bogeyed the last hole on Wednesday, but Chris Long had already done more than enough to win the Bushveld Tour’s TrueSport TV Series #3 at Dainfern Golf Estate by two shots when he carded a closing six-under-par 66.
Long, who has tasted success already on the Bushveld Tour this year with a win at Centurion Country Club, had made seven birdies up to the 13th hole, and, together with his opening four-under-par 68, he had pulled clear of his pursuers. The bogey saw his winning margin cut a little as Dylan O’Leary made four birdies in the final five holes.
But O’Leary also had a closing 66, and had started the second round of the 36-hole tournament two strokes back. He had made an eagle on 12 to begin his closing charge, but in the end, it wasn’t enough as he finished on eight-under-par.
In a share of third on five-under were Oliver Goldhill, Philip Geerts and Slade Pickering. There were six players on four-under-par.
The win took Long into second place on the three-tournament Order of Merit, behind Kyle MacLachlan, who finished 12th at Dainfern. MacLachlan won the second tournament at Irene Country Club and came second in the first at Waterkloof behind winner Ben Follett-Smith.
