He wasn’t the leading South African when play was suspended on Friday in the second round of the DP World Tour’s Singapore Classic at Laguna National Golf Resort Club, but Ockie Strydom would have been well pleased with his four-under-par 68.

His five birdies and a bogey lifted him to five-under for the tournament, and, although there are players with as many as five holes to complete, he is well inside the projected cut, and currently in a share of 31st. The leader when play was halted for darkness was the impressive young Northern Irishman Tom McKibbin at 11-under after a second-round 69. Also on 11-under was Chinese amateur Wenyi Ding, who was five-under through 14.

The leading South African was Zander Lombard on six-under through 36 holes after a one-under 71 in the second round. He was in a share of 23rd. Deon Germishuys was on three-under, right on the cut after his two-under 70.

Jayden Schaper was projected to miss the cut by one on two-under, together with Bryce Easton. Louis de Jager and George Coetzee were on one-under, Justin Walters on level-par, Daniel van Tonder, MJ Viljoen and Albert Venter on one-over, Thriston Lawrence on five-over and Jake Redman on 10-over.
