Jono Broomhead chased down the 36-hole leader on Thursday with a three-under-par 69 giving him enough to open up a three-stroke margin of victory in the Bushveld Tour’s Tour Championship presented by Srixon Golf SA at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate.

Broomhead, a member of GolfRSA’s 2022 national squad, reeled in fellow amateur Travis Ladner, who will play in next week’s Sunshine Tour Qualifying School Final Stage to snatch victory from him. Ladner, who led for the first two rounds, and had a four-stroke edge going into the final round of the 54-hole event, slumped to a four-over-par 76.

Broomhead started steadily, and seemed to stumble with a bogey on the fourth. Ladner also started steadily, and made pars all the way through the first six holes. Broomhead regained the dropped shot with a birdie on the fifth. As Ladner dropped shots on seven and nine, Broomhead struck on the homeward nine with no bogeys and birdies on 10, 11 and 18. Ladner made three bogeys and one birdie on his inward nine to surrender the lead and finish on three-under for the tournament.

Behind them, Dk Kim had the best round of the day, closing with a four-under-par 68 to climb into third place on two-under. He was one ahead of Matthew Rushton and Nicholaus Frade, who finished in a share of fourth.
