A birdie on the final hole on Thursday secured a one-shot victory for Casandra Alexander in the third event of the Standard Bank Pro-Am Series at Bryanston Country Club.
Alexander, who opened the tournament with a first-round of three-under-par 69, closed with a one-over 73 to hold off Isabella van Rooyen in frosty winter conditions. In a display of how tough winter can be on highveld courses, the greens were running at a staggering 14, making putting conditions extremely difficult.
“It was a tough day, and the course was tougher than I expected,” said Alexander. “On the 17th I had a three-foot putt for eagle but missed and had to make it up on the 18th as I did not want tohave a play-off.
“I love to play here in South Africa in these events so I can help and support the tour, see the progression, and hopefully they can learn from me on the course.”
