Two eagles in his final round for Kyle de Beer on Tuesday ensured he won the Bushveld Tour’s 2-Day Event Series #3 at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate.
An eagle three on the fifth and a hole-out two on the par-four 13th saw him canter to a four-under-par 68, and, after his opening two-under-par 70, he moved to six-under-par for the 36-hole tournament.
That put him five shots clear of Otto van Buynder, whose closing level-par 72 saw him finish at one-under. In third, Francois van Staden also had a level-par 72 to finish level-par for the tournament, and Leon van der Walt had a 74 to finish fourth on one-over. Jason Froneman, Chris Long and Regan Steyn shared fifth on three-over.
De Beer stamped his authority on proceedings early on with birdies on one and two edging him closer to first-round leader Steyn. De Beer’s eagle on five pulled him clear, and, although he bogeyed seven, a double from Steyn on the same hole put an end to his challenge. The eagle on 13 sealed the deal, and not even a dropped shot on 17 was enough to bother him.
The victory lifted De Beer to third on the 2023-24 Order of Merit.
