Werner Deyzel closed out a victory on the Bushveld Tour on Wednesday with a three-under-par 68 giving him the title in the Bushveld Series #5 at Wanderers Golf Club.
Dezel had opened up the 54-hole tournament with consecutive rounds of four-under-par 67 and a comfortable three-stroke edge over first-round leader Dylan O’Leary, and, when he made four birdies on the front nine in the final round, he made catching him for the title a very difficult proposition.
And while he made three birdies from the start of the homeward nine on 10, 11 and 14, he made two birdies on the stretch on 15 and 17 to seal the win. At 11-under for the tournament, he was four clear of Luke Mayo, who closed with a four-under 67. In third was O’Leary, with Willem Stals Swart on two-under in fourth.
In a share of fifth were Francois van der Walt and female amateur Danielle du Toit. Du Toit had rounds of 74-70-69 in a strong performance.
Deyzel’s win put him eighth on the Bushveld Tour’s Order of Merit, which is led by Keegan MacLachlan, who has had three victories in his six starts.
