Luke Brown just got better as the tournament went on, and his closing five-under-par 65 on Thursday was enough to give him victory in the Bushveld Tour’s Hayes Family Trophy -Elite Series #3 at Killarney Country Club.
Six birdies and a bogey in the final round were enough to move his 54-hole total to eight-under-par and a two-stroke win over Samuel Simpson. Simpson closed with a one-under 69 to finished two clear of Sweden’s Fredrik From, with Dylan O’Leary one back in fourth and Sean Paxton in fifth on one-under-par.
Brown made three birdies on each nine, dropping just the one stroke when he made bogey on the par-three sixth. At the turn, Simpson, who made birdie on eight, was one clear of Brown. After the turn, Simpson made a single birdie and dropped a shot on his way home, and Simpson’s three birdies with no drops saw him safely into the winner’s circle.
The win took Brown to third on the 2023-24 Order of Merit, with Simpson in fourth. At the top was Keegan McLachlan, who took the first two events on the Hayes Family Trophy-Elite Series.
