Keenan Davidse was in a share of 12th on Thursday after the first round of the Challenge Tour’s Challenge de Espana at Club de Golf Playa Serena in Almeria, Spain when he carded a three-under-par 67.
Davidse made five birdies and two bogeys, and was three shots off the lead which was held by Kristoffer Broberg of Sweden. Broberg eight birdies and two bogeys took him to six-under and a one-stroke lead over Denmark’s Lucas Bjerregaard and England’s Jack Senior. There were eight other players ahead of Davidse on four-under in a share of fourth.
Davidse shared 12th with 14 other players, including countryman Brandon Stone, who had four birdie and a bogey in a solid start to his tournament.
Jaco Prinsloo, JJ Senekal and Zimbabwe’s Benjamin Follett-Smith all carded one-under 69 for a share of 40th.
Challenge Tour number one Casey Jarvis was rusty on a return from a break and carded a three-over 73 together with Darren Fichardt. Tristen Strydom battled to a six-over 76.
Dylan Mostert retired from the tournament during the first round.
