Lejan Lewthwaite slipped to a three-over-par 75 in high winds on Friday to finish the Ladies European Tour’s Access Series event, the Calatayud Ladies Open, in a share of fourth place.

Lewthwaite was two shots behind the lead going into the final round, and she started that well with a birdie on the fourth. But successive bogeys on the next two holes set her back, and she was unable to pull things back in the tough conditions, making two more bogeys on the 11th and 17th.

She finished the tournament on one-under-par together with Cecilie Finne-Ipsen of Denmark. That was four shots behind the leading total of five-under, shared by Verena Gimmy of Germany and England’s Hannah Screen.

Screen pulled off the play-off victory on the second time of asking. The 24-year-old from London, made par on the first play-off hole, as did Gimmy. Gimmy’s second tee shot found the bunker whilst Screen’s landed on the fringe. After Gimmy’s bunker shot flew over the pin, Screen rolled a steady putt down to the hole for par.
